These days, banning books is counterproductive

banned books

I don’t even understand why they still do it. Unlike before, to ban a book these days would bring it directly to the limelight and invite thousands upon thousands of readers to take a peek and see what all the fuss is about. Besides, we have access enough to all controversial issues and taboo subjects with just a few clicks, so the question stands, why?

I’m going to start intentionally reading banned books. I’m sure I’ve already read quite a few without even knowing it, but this time I will actually come up with a list. Anyone want to join me?

The most comforting line I saw in a bookshop

Welcome book lover, you are among friends.

A couple of months ago, I happened to drop by a Foyle’s bookshop in London. I walked through the door, and this is the first thing I see:

Welcome book lover, you are among friends.
Foyle’s Bookstore, 107 Charing Cross Rd, Soho, London WC2H 0DT

Only an introverted bookworm who doesn’t have any other bookworm friends  (see post here) can know exactly how comforting that line is. I loved it so much that it inspired the tagline for this blog. If you felt something when you first landed on this page then that was it, more or less.
